Lab 10: The White Hat Hacker

Lab 10: The White Hat Hacker

Department: The School of Personal Safety / Technology

Target Audience: Ages 12–15 (Middle School)

TEFA Category: Technology / Computer Science

“To beat a hacker, you have to think like one.” The internet is a digital wild west, and most people are walking around with their front doors wide open. Hackers don’t just “guess” passwords anymore; they use AI and sophisticated social engineering to breach your life in seconds. In this lab, we flip the script. You aren’t the target—you’re the “White Hat” defender. We teach you the offensive tactics used by cyber-criminals so you can build an unhackable digital fortress.

The Experience

This lab operates like a Cyber-Security Command Center. Students will dive into the world of “Ethical Hacking” to understand the vulnerabilities of the digital world. We use live simulations to demonstrate how fast an AI-driven “Brute Force” attack can crack a standard password like “Password123” (hint: it’s less than a second).

Participants will go “behind the code” to analyze the anatomy of a phishing link, learning to spot the microscopic red flags that 99% of people miss. We don’t just talk about safety; we implement it by setting up high-level 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) protocols and “Digital Vaults” that keep your data off the dark web.

Core Skills Developed

  • Password Forensics: Understanding entropy and using mathematical patterns to create passwords that would take a supercomputer centuries to crack.

  • Social Engineering Defense: Identifying the psychological tricks used in phishing emails, texts, and DM-based scams.

  • Multi-Factor Security: Mastering the “Double-Lock” protocol—using 2FA and authenticator apps to create a physical barrier to digital entry.

  • Network Awareness: Learning the dangers of public Wi-Fi and how to “ghost” your digital footprint using secure browsing habits.
